12/03/2012 RCC Corporate Scholarships

Leadership is something The Rotary Club of Crawley is passionate about supporting and developing, especially amongst our youth (under 25), and the more disadvantaged sectors of our community. Equally important to us, is the question of equity.

We want to ensure access and opportunity for all, regardless of physical, cultural or financial means. And that is why The Rotary Club of Crawley has created Youth & Diversity Scholarships.

The scholarships offer the opportunity to participate in our new leadership program – a Rotary first!

They are unique in how they go about their services and how they are perceived by their communities and the Rotary District of which they belong.

18/09/2010 First Sundowner at the Uni Club

Congratulations to Rebecca and her FUN team for a tremendously enjoyable evening on Friday.  Bethne and I arrived just after 5pm and I commented that it was unlikely we would see more than a couple of people for quite a while.  But I was so wrong! Cheers,

David GlodstoneTen days before his 21st birthday, David Goldstone lay in a hospital bed near Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, his arms and legs paralyzed by polio, his body gripped by fever and in terrible pain. His hospital admission form read, "Life expectancy: 24 hours."

Six days later, Goldstone emerged from a semicoma and was moved out of isolation into a children's ward; adult polio victims were and still are relatively rare. "You will probably never walk again," the hospital’s chief medical officer told him.

"I will," Goldstone replied.

Christmas has come early for the children of the Philippines but they’re not expecting skateboards or video games in their stockings, they are asking for something much simpler – basic warmth and shelter.

After a super typhoon that struck the Philippines in mid-October destroyed thousands of homes, international aid organisation ShelterBox was quick to respond with emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies for those most in need.

Developing signature activities that are visible in the community helps enhance the public image and awareness of Rotary, one of the priorities of the RI Strategic Plan, which was updated in July 2010. Thorfinnson recently moderated a discussion on Rotary International's official LinkedIn group.
